The Franco family has been in the tortilla business for nearly 50 years. Unquestionably, many great tortilla recipes have been formulated by the Franco family over the course of the last 5 decades. The story began in 1960 when Mr. Angel Franco first worked as a distributor of tortillas and other Mexican food products in El Paso, Texas. A position he would hold until the end of that decade (1969). It was during his time as a distributor that Angel Franco envisioned himself manufacturing his own tortillas. His vision became reality a few years later.

In the early 1970’s, Angel Franco became the proprietor of his own tortilla factory in El Paso, Texas. Angel took great pride and insisted on manufacturing only premium home-made tortillas from his facility. In the years from 1971 to 1978, the Franco family continued to expand their knowledge of the tortilla manufacturing process and developed and improved many tortilla recipes. The knowledge acquired by Angel would be passed on to his sons. In the late 1970’s, Gus Franco helped his father create and build their own flour tortilla presses – which were used in the family business. After graduating from the University of Texas, in the early 1980′s, Gus and three partners launched a tortilla manufacturing business in San Diego, California. The Franco flour tortilla presses and recipes were used to cater to a customer base that consisted of many chain retail supermarket stores, Navy Commissaries and many hundreds of independent retail markets.

From 1986 to 2007, Gus’ experience and recipes helped a small company in San Diego, amass many chain supermarket retailers and wholesale club giants, not only in California, but throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. Gus worked 21 years for this company as Director of Operations and Regional Sales Manager. His duties included the development of many tortilla recipes, oversight of the flour tortilla production process, transportation logistics, quality assurance, purchasing and sales.

Gus developed the uncooked flour tortilla recipe for this California Company in 1993, a product that would prove to be a great success and help this small company become recognized nationally. In 2003 Gus created the uncooked whole wheat roti-chapati. This product continues to be a premium seller.
